SEWER MAINLINE TEST & SEAL PROJECT IN HEADLEY TRACE
In mid-May 2026, the Newtown Sewer Authority will begin a Sewer Mainline Test & Seal Project in the Headley Trace neighborhood off Newtown Yardley Road. This work is part of the Authority’s ongoing effort to maintain and improve the local sewer collection system by identifying and sealing areas where groundwater may be entering the pipes.
Rather than replacing sewer mains or performing large-scale excavation, this project uses internal inspection and grouting methods to repair leaks from within the existing sewer lines.
Project Overview:
- Crews will first inspect the sewer mains using televising equipment to view the inside of the pipes and locate joints, cracks, or other areas where groundwater may be entering the system.
- Once potential leak points are identified, the joints and cracks will be pressure-tested to determine whether sealing is needed.
- Where leaks are confirmed, a specialized grout will be injected from inside the pipe to seal the opening and reduce unwanted groundwater infiltration.
- Most of the work will take place through existing manholes, which helps limit disturbance to streets, lawns, sidewalks, and driveways.
- Residents may notice utility vehicles and crews working in the neighborhood, but the process is designed to be minimally invasive with limited traffic disruption.
By reducing groundwater infiltration, this project helps protect sewer system capacity, improve long-term infrastructure performance, and avoid unnecessary treatment costs caused by excess water entering the system.
